This week we were thrilled to have one of the founders of usability, Rolf Molich over from Denmark to speak at 2 events we sponsor; UX Oxford and UX Sheffield.
Tickets for these free community events sold out quickly and in Sheffield we were forced to change venues to accommodate the number of people wanting to attend.
Rolf lead an interactive and lively discussion about a number of controversial beliefs around usability evaluation teaching us what is truth and what is myth. There was also a lively discussion after.
Being one of the pioneers of usability, Rolf Molich has worked in the field since 1984 and together with Jakob Nielsen created the method of heuristic evaluation. He conceived and coordinated the Comparative Usability Evaluation studies in which more than 100 professional usability teams tested or reviewed the same applications.
Rolf will be speaking in London at tonight’s sold out UXPA event, “An Evening with Rolf Molich“.
Key take aways from the talk:
- Five users are enough to drive a useful iterative cycle. Never claim that you can find all usability problems
- Expert reviews are valuable – but politically challenging
- Always include positive findings (even if they are hard to find)
- As usability professionals, we must set a good example for the world. Our products, presentations, doings must be useable and useful, correct, relevant, brief and constructive.

We are also thrilled that Rolf Molich will return for Bunnyfoot to deliver the advanced level of the ever popular Certified Practitioner in UX (CPUX) course which focusses on usability testing.
