Info & Descriptions

Coastal areas:

The Mediterranean Coast is closest at Sabinillas, only 30 minutes away. Here there is a good public beach with ample parking, and safe swimming (there are beach showers every few hundred metres.)

Estepona Harbour area has some excellent bars and restaurants, with probably the best fish restaurant on the coast. (At the back of the bar near the lighthouse-facing right onto the beach)

Puerto Duquesa has a luxury harbour, with bars and restaurants, and the nearest golf course to Gaucin.

Costa de la Luz the Atlantic Coast, and a world Mecca for windsurfing . Tarifa is the centre for windsurfing, and is an enchanting place in its own right. You can catch the Hydrofoil to Tangier, from here, and be on another Continent within 30 minutes.

There are still unspoilt villages with miles of golden sand, and little else. Bolonia is one such, with the added attraction of a Roman settlement. Cadiz and Jerez lie north of here, and are worth a visit, in their own right.

Seville, Cordoba, Granada

Seville

The capital of Andalucia, was once the greatest city of the civilized world. Its pride and prestige still shows through in the spectacular buildings, where the Gothic cathedral adjoins the Moorish minarets of La Giralda and the lovely gardens of the Alcazar palace.

The spirits of Figaro, Carmen, and Don Juan live on, especially during the great festivals of Rocio and Semana Santa.

Cordoba

Within easy reach of Seville, and the most hauntingly Moorish town of Andalucia. The mosque here was the largest after Mecca, before being turned into a Christian Cathedral. Here in May the beautiful "patio in bloom" festival takes place.

Granada

Home of the celebrated Alhambra palace haunted by Moorish echoes, where artists and poets were inspired, under its rose-red walls.

The snow-capped peaks of The Sierra Nevada can be seen towering high in the distance.

Ronda

Not as large, or Moorish as the other three, but only 40 minutes drive away. Well worth the visit for its spectacular Gorge and the first Bullring in Spain.
