Eyetracking – it’s childs play – literally
Posted by Jon Dodd in Short sharp essentials, Video demosTom aged two and a half plays teletubbies – video from 2004 – see if you can see his choices before he makes them – simple demonstration of the power of eye tracking.
This is my son 5 years ago – and my favourite demo ever of eyetracking – I use it all the time and must have show it hundreds of times now – time to release it to the wider world to view.
some key points:
- I am wearing sunglasses – not to look cool – but so the eyetracker doesn’t track me
- Tom was only two and a half and had to be calibrated first – but it’s so simple he did it first time (I just kept saying ‘look at the dot Tom’)
- The video clearly demonstrates that the eye tracking is resistant to head movements – and you don’t need to wear anything or put your head anywhere special
- We can clearly see Tom’s choices before he tells us – predict which game and which teletubby he wants to colour in
- In the background you can hear his bossy big sister (Hannah) – now Tom was (and still is) a quite precise chap and likes things to be right – so he wanted to colour Lala yellow (his eye trace clearly tells us this) but he capitulated to his sister’s demands of ‘Greeeeen’ – clever chap – he knows when the fight is worth it and when it’s better to have a quiet life
- That is Bunnyfoot’s logo two re-brands ago - we have come a very long way since then!
